Grant a Wish. Celebrate a Child.
A Birthday Wish was founded with the steadfast commitment to let each child in foster care know that they are special and that their life truly matters. We do this each day by granting birthday wishes. Why is granting a birthday wish for a child in foster care so important? These children are in crisis situations — many have been victims of abuse and neglect while others have lost a parent. Fulfilling their special birthday wish says, the day you were born is a day to celebrate, and we acknowledge the unique person that you are. It also builds trust. A child in foster care has experienced the betrayal of broken promises. Allowing a child to ask for something special and to have that wish granted is a small step in learning that you can trust people in your life.
Join us by granting a wish and celebrating a special child today.
How it Works
Social workers and volunteers working with our partner agencies ask children to make a birthday wish. In some cases, this may be the first time these children are asked to dream of a special gift just for themselves.
Each precious wish is sent to A Birthday Wish along with a brief summary description of the child including age, gender, and initials.
A Birthday Wish posts each wish on our website and on our social media sites. Wonderful people across the country select a child and grant a wish. A Birthday Wish volunteers wrap each gift and enclose a personal card to each child.
On their birthday, each child receives their birthday wish and the simple joy of being a child.
